steveinsocal "…Newtown's LePie has for a number of years had the knack of condensing the essence of 60's iconic female pop and production values into a 3 minutes or so of frankly knock-out, dreamy pop. Lyrically she has blossomed - from abstract comic romanticism to - intensely autobiographic and confessional dark-pop sadness... this is a song's which is not only about seeking a mental place of safety, but of reflection and dawning realisation…"

about

‘Eye of the Storm’ is the first single from Le Pie's impending debut album ‘A Room Of One’s Own,’ due out November 13, 2020. It unravels Le Pie's personal experience of falling in love with a long-term female friend, soon after the dissolution of her own marriage. This broken hearted 60s ballad explores the confusion of being stuck somewhere between two turbulent worlds. In other words - trapped in the eye of a storm.

"This song is special to me because it's about someone I really cared for. It's also the first time I have openly identified as a queer woman in my song writing. The romantic relationship was quite sudden and became very intense, very quickly. Looking back, it was more than I could emotionally handle so soon out of my marriage."

‘Eye of the Storm’ grew from a disagreement between Le Pie and her lover, sitting outside the Oxford Art Factory after a gig one night. "I can’t remember exactly what the argument was about but at one point she turned to me and said, 'You want to be with complex people but you want them to be simple for you.' This realisation was so accurate I was shocked and didn’t know what to say in return."

The accompanying video was directed by Molly Haddon and shot by cinematographer Jani Hakli. Shot over two days between an art space in Newtown and a drive in theatre in Blacktown, the video is in keeping with Le Pie’s vintage aesthetic that we have come to know her for.

lyrics

I met this girl in the eye of a storm it was some time in June when the weathers not warm, she held my hand and we went for a dance and she said we should go back to her place. I took off my shirt and I showed her my heart, she undid her jacket, showed me hers scars it sounds so intense but it seemed to make sense at the time

But, I always want people to be simple for me x 3
I’ve never had someone read me like that no I’ve never had someone read me like that before

She showed me patience to let her in her face in my hair and my hands on her skin, her body like porcelain I was so scared I would break it. So the time passed and the weeks turned to months as questions arose about what we’d become, I wanted to lover her but knew I could not heartbreak within a heartbreak

But, I always want people to be simple for me x 3
I’ve never had someone read me like that no I’ve never had someone read me like that before

Weeks turned into months and it all came undone, I wanted to lover her when it stopped being fun

But, I always want people to be simple for me x 3
I’ve never had someone read me like that no I’ve never had someone read me like that before
